Special Events
During the week of January 13-21, 2007, Dr. Ginsberg traveled to
Monimbo, Nicaragua, to participate in a mission which provided eye
and medical care to thousands of indigent people. Monimbo is a small
village in the Masaya district of western Nicaragua. It is located
about an hour or so from the capitol city of Mangua. This was Dr.
Ginsberg's ninth trip to Nicaragua. Our group consisted of
approximately 70 volunteers from throughout the United States, all
of varying professions, including optometrists, internists,
opticians, nurses, physical therapists and dentists. In addition,
Audiology technicians brought hearing to about 280 people. Almost
4000 people were provided with eye examinations, medical and dental
exam and wheelchairs, most for their first time in their life.
Physical therapists fit and dispensed 280 new, heavy duty
all-terrain wheelchairs. Many eye diseases were treated, over 1800
eyeglasses were dispensed from our library of 13,000 pairs, and 30
patients had cataract surgery. It was a rewarding and demanding
experience for all people who participated, and one that will bring
many who went, back to Nicaragua again for years to come. To read
