Special Events

During the week of January 19-27, 2008,  Dr. Ginsberg traveled to Nandaime, Nicaragua, to participate in a mission which provided eye and medical care to thousands of indigent people. Nandaime is a small village in the Masaya district of western Nicaragua. It is located about an hour or so from the capital city of Mangua. This was Dr. Ginsberg's tenth trip to Nicaragua. Our group consisted of approximately 65 volunteers from throughout the United States, all of varying professions, including optometrists, internists, opticians, nurses, physical therapists and dentists. Almost 4000 people were provided with eye examinations, medical and dental exam and wheelchairs, most for their first time in their life. Physical therapists fit and dispensed 100 new, heavy duty all-terrain wheelchairs. Many eye diseases were treated, over 1800 eyeglasses were dispensed from our library of 12,000 pairs, and 50 patients had cataract surgery. It was a rewarding and demanding experience for all people who participated, and one that will bring many who went, back to Nicaragua again for years to come.
